Jean-Pascal Delamuraz, a prominent Swiss politician, was born on April 1, 1936, in Vevey. He passed away on October 4, 1998, in Lausanne. As a member of the Swiss Federal Council from 1983 to 1998, he played a crucial role in shaping Switzerland's economic and trade policies. Delamuraz earned his degree in political science from the University of Lausanne in 1960. That same year, he became deputy director of the Swiss National Exhibition (Expo 64). He served as a member of the Lausanne City Parliament for ten years, from 1960 to 1970. In 1970, Delamuraz was elected to the Municipal Council, where he oversaw Public Works. Following Georges-André Chevallaz's election to the Federal Council, Delamuraz was appointed Mayor of Lausanne. From 1981 to 1983, he served as a member of the Government of the Canton of Vaud, responsible for the Department of Agriculture, Industry, and Trade. Delamuraz belonged to the National Council from 1975 until 1983 and chaired the control committee for two years. He was a strong advocate for Switzerland's membership in the European Economic Area and the World Trade Organisation. Delamuraz's tenure as a member of the Swiss Federal Council spanned from December 7, 1983, to March 30, 1998. He affiliated with the Free Democratic Party and served as secretary general of its Vaud section. Delamuraz initiated bilateral negotiations that led to the adoption of seven agreements with the European Union.
