The JC Nichols Memorial Fountain shines as the crowning jewel of Kansas City, renowned as The City of Fountains. Master artist Henri-Léon Gréber crafted these exquisite sculptures in 1910 for Clarence Mackay's Harbor Hill estate on Long Island, New York. Gréber's son, Jacques, would go on to become a prominent architect. Four majestic horsemen stand proud, symbolizing the world's most influential rivers of the early 20th century: the Mississippi River, represented by a Native American riding triumphantly while battling an alligator; Russia's Volga River, personified by a powerful bear; France's Seine River, embodying a bold merman with a distinctive mohawk hairstyle; and Germany's Rhine River, proudly featured with a majestic twin-tailed merman. In 1951, the sculptures found a new home in Kansas City, Missouri, where they were meticulously restored to their former glory by Herman Frederick Simon. As the JC Nichols Memorial Fountain was unveiled in 1960, it quickly became an iconic landmark on Country Club Plaza's east side, situated between 47th and 46th Terraces along J.C. Nichols Parkway. Using Autodesk Recap and MeshLab, detailed 3D models were meticulously created from laser scans, showcasing each figure's intricate details. These digital replicas underwent some subtle refinement in ZBrush before being presented here for all to see.
