Roman Era Weight in Ceramics with Suspension Hole. This object would be used as a weight on a vertical loom to keep the yarn threads (hung vertically) under tension, while the warp threads (horizontal) intertwined between them formed the fabric. It is one of the few components of the loom that survives the degradation of the wooden structure.
