Dr. Iskandar's masterful handwriting is evident in his handwritten 'clay diaries', showcasing his deep appreciation for the beauty of written words. As Singapore's only potter to extensively explore typography in modern ceramic art, Dr. Iskandar has made a significant impact. His use of typography on vessels from the 1960s has gone beyond mere decorative effects to incorporate impromptu verses and ideas. Jawi and Khat scripts, Roman alphabets, and pre-Islamic symbols from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are skillfully applied using brushes in various styles - cursive, highly stylized, or improvisational. His seals also feature additional typefaces with Japanese, Arabic, and Chinese characters. This stoneware vessel boasts a bell-jar form with a cylindrical neck and two vestigial handles, weighing a substantial 11.5 kg, the heaviest of Dr. Iskandar's 31 works in the NIE (as of 2017).
