Ancient Japanese warriors pioneered the use of helmets, known as Kabuto, which evolved into a crucial component of traditional armor worn by samurai and their retainers in feudal Japan. Archaeological discoveries have unearthed Japanese helmets dating back to the fifth century, long before the emergence of the samurai class. These early kabuto, referred to as mabizashi-tsuke kabuto, bore a distinct resemblance to Chinese and Korean designs, featuring a prominent central ridge on their visor-attached helmets.
