Jane Bolin, a trailblazer in every sense of the word, made history in 1939 by becoming the first African American woman to serve as a United States judge. As I pay tribute to women's remarkable achievements during Black History Month in 2020, I designed this series of lithophanes, each one reflecting a unique aspect of her inspiring story. In this particular piece, the intricate pattern is inspired by the blouse she wore, while the borders are meant to evoke the dignity and authority that comes with earning a law degree.
