The James Webb Space Telescope, abbreviated as JWST, is a forthcoming orbiting observatory that will serve as the scientific successor to the Hubble Space Telescope. It is being developed in collaboration by NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). Scheduled for launch in 2021, JWST will observe the most distant objects in the universe, explore the formation of stars and galaxies, and study the atmospheres of exoplanets.
