Jake and the Neverland pirates cookie cutters
thingiverse
Cookie cutters of characters from Jake and the Neverland Pirates. The outer edge cuts, and the inner details leave an imprint in the dough. Characters: Captain Hook Princess Jake Dimensions: Height: 10 mm Imprint height: 7 mm Print Settings Printer Brand: LulzBot Printer: Mini Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.25 mm Infill: 20% Notes: Use PLA since it's rated as food safe, plus it won't warp. The cutters vary in size but I've found that min. 14-15 cm in Y direction gives a good result. At that size the internal details print nicely. Scale them in your slicer. The outer walls and bottom are 1.5 mm thick to give the cutter some rigidity. When slicing the model, scale z independently so that the mold becomes 10 mm high. This is to maintain the proper cutting depth and bottomplate thickness DO NOT put in dishwasher since the plastic is likely to deform from the heat. Only clean with warm water and dish soap. Post-Printing Edge cleanup: There could be some minor stringing between walls. Cut/peel off with a small sharp knife. How I Designed This: To create these, I used coloring book motifs that I converted into vector format. For this I used the free software Inkscape but any vector graphics program works fine. Google "character name coloring pages" to find suitable pictures to work with. Save the picture you want and import it into Inkscape. In Inkscape, create a bitmap copy of the object. Trace the lines of the bitmap. Use threshold 0.0 to get thicker lines. Simpler pictures works best, you don't want crazy amounts of detail since the 3D printer most likely will not be able to print it properly anyway. Some cleanup of the picture might be required to get it right for 3D printing. Make sure the outer edge is solid. Save as DXF or SVG format. This might depend on which CAD-program you're using. Open the file in your CAD-program. Add the picture to a sketch and create your cookie cutter. Experiment to find what's working best for your setup.
