Enjoyed a fantastic Saturday visiting The Art Institute of Chicago with Tom Burtonwood. One of the scans we took using the Sense Scanner is displayed below. Further details about the sculpture can be found in the text. The original file from the scanner is labeled as serpent medium.obj, while a partially cleaned version is named Serpant_Fixed_Final.stl and has been resized for printing purposes. Cleaning up this file might still be needed; Netfabb and I are no longer on speaking terms because of it. The sculpture hails from India, specifically Karnataka, and dates back to the 12th century. It is a Jaina Tirthankara Parshvanatha with Serpent Hood Seated in Meditation (Dhyanamudra). The statue is made of chlorite, measures 85.3 x 74.0 x 23.8 cm, and was gifted to the institute by the Auxiliary Board in honor of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Alsdorf. It became part of the collection in 1978 under the reference number 1978.274. The sculpture is displayed in Asian Art's Display Unit 402.
