Jailhouse Spacer v1.2
thingiverse
After being underwhelmed by a couple of Jailhouse spacers on Thingiverse, I decided to take matters into my own hands and create one myself. These spacers were tested using Cherry MX Blues, but other switches will be put through their paces down the line. Currently, only one spacer is placed on the bed, and once I've perfected the design, more will be added based on the keyboard's layout. October 10th, 2019 My first test with Cherry MX Blue switches began with a height of 1.3mm, but that proved to be too thick, causing issues with switch return to home position. Reducing the height by 0.1mm resolved this problem, but I soon discovered another issue - corners on the spacer jammed against the top of the switch. After trimming these corners with a knife, the switch worked, but I haven't printed an updated version. July 14th, 2019 After printing the updated version and putting it to the test, I'm pleased to report that it works flawlessly as long as the spacer is inserted correctly between the stem and click jacket. To ensure proper installation, check if any of the spacer is visible from the top of the stem. If not, you're good to go; if a small portion is poking out, simply push it back until it's covered. I'll continue updating this design over time to make it perfect, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you encounter any issues. Further testing with other switches revealed that my spacer might be slightly too tall - try altering the Z height from 1.3mm to 1.2 or 1.25 for optimal results. I'll be experimenting with these heights in the coming days and will update the file accordingly.
