As a fully owned subsidiary of Indian company Tata Motors Ltd, it operates under the Jaguar Land Rover umbrella. Founded by Sir William Lyons in 1922, Jaguar initially made motorcycle sidecars and eventually transformed into passenger cars, with its name changed to Jaguar after World War II to eliminate unfavorable associations linked to the SS initials. After merging with British Motor Corporation in 1968 and subsequent absorption by Leyland, Jaguar was listed on London Stock Exchange in 1984 and became a part of FTSE 100 Index before being acquired by Ford in 1989. Jaguar currently manufactures high-end cars for the Prime Minister, most recently delivering a XJ model on May 11th, 2010. Designed in Jaguar Land Rover's engineering centers at Whitley plant in Coventry and Gaydon site in Warwickshire, Jaguar cars are produced at Castle Bromwich assembly plant near Birmingham.
