The pair of Maya name glyphs carved on the right side of this portrait suggests that it was repurposed by a Maya lord as an heirloom. Typically, these glyphs are inscribed facing forward, but in this case, they're drawn in reverse to face the Olmec portrait, implying a deep respect for its authority as a symbol of dynastic power. The eyes and nose were likely adorned with intricate shell work and ornaments. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit project launched by MyMiniFactory that aims to create a global digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks for the public to access free of charge. Scan The World is an open-source community initiative, and if you have interesting items around you that you'd like to contribute, please email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can help us grow this collection.
