The self contained jack-up rig is positioned onto site by lowering and rooting their three or four giant legs on the sea floor. The rig deck and associated equipment can crank itself up and down the huge vertical frame towers to accommodate varying sea levels, particularly useful shallow water with a large tidal variation.
