Jack Sparrow's Jar of Dirt is a mysterious item that originated in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. In the scene where it first appears, Davy Jones explains his situation to Jack Sparrow: "Davy Jones cannot make port. Cannot step on land but once every ten years. Land is where you are safe, Jack Sparrow, and so you will carry land with you." Davy Jones hands Jack a jar of dirt and says, "This is a jar of dirt." Jack responds, "Yes." Davy Jones asks, "Is the jar of dirt going to help?" Jack replies, "If you don't want it, give it back." Davy Jones says, "No." And then he adds, "Then it helps."
