I built the JR More model in April 2012 for VSF, with the actual vessel located in my hometown, allowing me to obtain plans from the museum and take around 500 photos as reference points for the modeling process. The Steam Tug J.R. More was constructed by Ferguson Bros. Shipbuilders Ltd in Port Glasgow, Scotland, UK in 1961 for the South African Railways & Harbours administration (SAR&H). This organization was formed in 1910 when the Union of South Africa was established and has evolved over time. Length:53.72m (176.3 ft), overall length. Moulded breadth:11,303m (35 ft). Moulded depth:5.48m (18 ft). Mean draught:4.712m (15.5 ft). Displacement:1654.94 tonnes. Gross Tonnage:817,689 tonnes. Built by:Ferguson Brothers, Glasgow in 1961. Decommissioned on November 22, 1982. Propulsion systems include three furnace multi-tubular boilers driving two sets of triple expansion steam engines producing 3110 indicated horsepower each. These are twin screw propellers designed by Rankin & Blackmore and manufactured at Eagle Foundry in Greenock with engine numbers 593 (both units) built in 1960.
