j-head bracket with servo mount 3mm and 1/4th inch coupling
thingiverse
Human: I was really impressed with Biomushroom's j-head design featuring bracket so i decided to re-work it with a 3mm filament hole and adjust the pnumatic coupling hole to work seamlessly with a 1/4th inch coupling. I relied on indieflow's scad files to build the base model, then attached biomuchroom's mount directly. The supports that biomushroom created were great, but i chose to use ones made by a slicing program instead - they seem safer that way. I also took the modified version of the main part of indieflow's direct drive extruder and redesigned it for 3mm filament and the larger coupling. This has been tested with my mk7 drive gear but may require adjustments on the filament hole to function perfectly. I printed out one working version, though i've since been tweaking it some more to get everything functioning exactly as planned. You can find all of my changes being tracked on github: https://github.com/monofuel/Prusa3 - and keep in mind that mono_bracket.scad is currently up-to-date but lacks the servo-mount for now. As for what i've changed so far: 1- initially, fitting in 3m cap screws & 3m philips screws into the holes of j-head clamp presented a few challenges for me, so i slightly enlarged them to improve the fit. Then, when my self-tapping screw failed to thread in smoothly due to being too small, i decided instead to increase all relevant hole sizes on the model. 2- I altered the sizes of each 3m screw's intended holes making sure they measured out as exactly 3m rather than relying on a specific brand's hole sizing that might vary. The original j-head clamp only accounted for slightly smaller self-tapping screws except at the very top, however i felt better using an actual tap & die set instead of simply enlarging existing holes. The one issue i ran into involved fitting my 3/8ths with a 24-pitch pneumatic coupling hole, it proved rather difficult and just didn't seem to fit properly - i made adjustments on the design to extend its length deeper which is currently about 1mm short of fully screwing it in with this particular version but going further would leave very little room between the j-head & bracket. i adjusted the size of the filament hole to match my specific requirements at 3.4mm - initially trying 3.2 was way too small and presented issues getting it properly inserted. Since all pieces continue fitting as needed on my printer, no modifications were made concerning the size scale. You can check all changes by going to github.
