Iztaccihuatl
thingiverse
Iztaccihuatl stands proudly as an inactive volcano in Mexico. Crafted with precision using 1 arcsecond resolution SRTM data from the Space Shuttle's archive, amounting to approximately 1.4 million intricate polygons. This model was born from a pioneering version of SRTM2STL software that is yet to be released. The underlying source code, capable of generating files at 3 arcsecond resolution, can be accessed on github under the permissive GNU license. Search for SRTM2STL on github to unlock this feature. It's recommended to print these models with a moderate scale to minimize distortion, as large prints may lead to PLA warping. Experimenting with different print settings or methods of controlling warping could improve results when tackling big Raised Relief Maps. Despite challenges, some users have achieved satisfactory outcomes with large-scale maps, suggesting further refinement is possible with careful experimentation.
