Izembek Point XCB-003-141 is a site meticulously examined by A.P. McCartney in 1971. This location serves as the primary type-site for the Izembek Phase. A small village with an exceptional whalebone house and numerous artifacts closely resembling those found in the Bristol Bay region stands out at this site. Dating back approximately 1200-1350 CE, this era is characterized by unique cultural traits. Research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411 yielded significant results related to the Western Alaska Peninsula artifacts. H. Maschner, Principal Investigator, spearheaded this research effort. Artifacts from this site were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Subsequent processing took place in Geomagic or Polyworks, with 2-8 photos utilized for texture in Geomagic Wrap. The original digitizing work was carried out at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing and publication were completed at Global Digital Heritage. McCartney's research is thoroughly documented in his 1974 paper, "Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula," published in APUA 16(1):59-84. Maschner's study, "Arctic Anthropology," published on January 1, 2004, vol. 41 no. 2, 98-111, is also a valuable resource for understanding this period.
