Izembek Point Base XCB-003-365 XCB-003 or IZM-003 was thoroughly tested by A.P. McCartney in 1971. The site is a type-site for the Izembek Phase. A small village features a unique whalebone house and many artifacts identical to those discovered in the Bristol Bay region. Dating back approximately 1200-1350 CE, these finds are crucial. Research on Alaska Peninsula artifacts was conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, and NSF 1321411. H. Maschner led this investigation as the Principal Investigator. These artifacts were scanned using either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Geomagic or Polyworks was used for processing. In Geomagic Wrap, 2-8 photos were employed for texture. Original digitizing work took place at the IVL on Id. St. Univ.'s campus. Subsequent processing and publication occurred at Global Digital Heritage. A.P. McCartney's research is outlined in Prehistoric Cultural Integration along the Alaska Peninsula. This study was published in APUA 16(1):59-84 in 1974. H. Maschner's work, doi: 10.1353/arc.2011.0007, appeared in Arctic Anthro on January 1, 2004, volume 41, no. 2, pages 98-111.
