Ivy Vase

Ivy Vase

myminifactory

Ivy Vase This vase was created as a submission to the SelfCAD / MyMiniFactory design competition. The intricate texture on this vase was hand-drawn with an ivy pattern sketched onto a notecard using a sharpie. I then scanned the notecard and refined the sketch in Photoshop before importing the image into SelfCAD. Once converted to 3D, I bent one side of the cylinder 180 degrees to form half of the vase. After copying and rotating the other side, I merged them together to complete the vase. The top was subtly tapered for a more elegant finish. The original hand-drawn pattern used to create the texture on this 3D printed vase is shown in the accompanying photos. This vase was initially printed with white PLA plastic and then hand-painted light blue using an airbrush. One of its notable features is that it doesn't require any support material during printing. To give you a better understanding of how I designed this vase, I recorded a timelapse video, which can be found on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJdM0wbvBJ0&feature=youtu.be The music used in the video is courtesy of Bensound at www.bensound.com #SelfCAD #SelfCADchallenge
