Material: Ivory. Accession no.: CG 016. Current location: The Hunt Museum, Limerick. A Madonna and Child in elephant ivory. The figures are without heads. The Madonna is seated on a low, cushioned throne with carved ends. She is holding the child against her upper body and the child reaches towards her chin. Their clothing is deeply folded and follows the contours of their bodies. The head MG 017 (Ivory head of the Virgin Mary) fits, as does MG 016 (head of young Christ). If these are all part of the same piece it may indicate that the piece dates from the 14th century. More.
