Ivory Carving (Bas Relief)
thingiverse
A three-dimensional printable replica of an ivory carving, created from a photograph as a reverse lithophane where the whitest areas are the thickest. Two separate models are included: a base (Bas_Relief_Base.stl - a black rectangle) and the carving (Bas_Relief.stl). The base was printed first with a 0.25 layer height, including the first layer, to achieve a 1mm platform made up of four layers. The carving was then printed with white filament and a 0.1mm layer height, offsetting it 1mm above the print bed before slicing so that it gets printed on top of the black base. To ensure a smooth transition between prints, the slicer's (S3D) ending script for the base was modified to leave the bed heated during filament changes and no additions (skirt, brim, or raft) were included when printing the carving. Six layers of top and bottom were used for the carving with zero outline/perimeters shells. The resulting print measures 170mm x 140mm x 2mm while the optional frame measures 182mm x 152mm x 3mm.
