If you want to update your printer's firmware but it won't work via USB port because the motherboard doesn't have the bootloader installed, or if your board just can't fit all that code, you can upload the firmware directly through ISP and save those precious bytes. You'll need a 10p & 6p ISP/JTAG plug with narrow connections, like the one that fits snugly into the Ender3 board's 6pin header - it's located right next to the display connector. Of course, you can also make your own 10p to 6p ISP adapter using some basic pieces. Just grab a thin wire (a single strand with a diameter of about 0.129mm2 or AWG26 works great) and get started.
