This is a 12' section of 144" diameter isogrid. Isogrid is an extremely expensive manufacturing process and is usually restricted to space flight and certain aerospace usage. The process of machining the isogrid is CNC or chemical milling since the structure is made from one single piece of material. Isogrid structures are found in space launch vehicles such as the stage adapters and as well as the rocket body itself. Notable isogrid usages include Atlas V (series 401 & 501) rockets, Delta II series (6000 & 7000) rockets, Delta IV & Delta IV Heavy rockets, Falcon 9 & Falcon 9 Heavy rockets, Ares rockets and the SLS (Space Launch System). This is a design that I came up with using equilateral triangles 180 degrees apart connected to stringers that run around the ID of the structure ever 12 inches. Created in Autodesk Inventor LT 2018.
