Isle of Skye Game Box Insert
thingiverse
The Isle of Skye game is fantastic, but its component organization leaves much to be desired - it's completely non-existent! A handful of tiny bags are provided for components and a cloth bag for tiles, but they all get tossed into the box in a jumbled mess. That just won't do. A quick search online will turn up several Isle of Skye box insert designs that people have created, and they're great. But I wanted something that took the best parts from each design and added a bit more to it - after all, my creations often incorporate the "Goldilocks" theme. The foundation of these inserts is based on the elegant Isle of Skye Organizer boxes by zzzzzane. The changes I made include: * Removing the Isle of Skye logo from the coin holder, as it was a bit too busy and wouldn't have looked great at the larger resolution I was printing at. * Adding lids to both holders, so that when turned sideways bits wouldn't fall out. * Making both holders the same height, so that there's only a little extra space between the scorecard, box lid, holder lids, and preventing them from dislodging and spilling their contents. * Tweaking the outer wall and bottom thicknesses to be more consistent (2mm where applicable). * Repurposing the slot for the player screen sides to hold all the screen pieces together, and re-purposing it further to hold castle marker tokens - a great solution that keeps everything organized. The player screen holder was borrowed from JeanDorthe's comprehensive Isle of Skye + extension Journey Man Insert Box. I liked the holders I had already found for other bits better, but I took some inspiration from JeanDorthe's design. The changes I made include: * Widening the sides to fit more snugly in the box. * Tweaking the wall and bottom thicknesses to be a bit more consistent (2mm where applicable). * Since I have a Monoprice Select Mini, I had to chop the thing in half to print it - so I split the model, added slots and splints, and glued it together with 5-minute epoxy. While the game has a player "castle" tile that gets easily lost in the jumble of other tiles, I wanted something more visible. So, I printed a player castle marker token! I lifted a simple yet evocative castle token from DiggyJ's extensive collection of Catan Player Tokens and scaled it up a bit. Lastly, I didn't want all these nice holders for the game bits moving around in the box - so I took inspiration from brettmcgin's clever game box insert designs and developed a brace that uses minimal material while keeping everything in place. Again, with the MPSM, I had to subdivide the larger piece so I could print it, but it all holds together with glue. Since the slots varied slightly based on printing angle, I provided a mix-and-match variety of splints from 1.08mm to 1.50mm in thickness. Where I was forced to split a model for printing, I'm providing both the split pieces and splints, as well as the full single piece model so folks with larger/smaller printers can choose the options that suit them best.
