Islamic Pattern Lasercut Box
thingiverse
I began with a design from Eric Droug's book Islamic Geometric Patterns and customized it using Adobe Flash and Illustrator. I then exported the revised SVG file into CorelDraw for use in NYC Resistor's lasercutter. After cutting the wood pieces, I attached translucent paper to the back of each piece with Crazy glue. A 45-degree bevel was applied to the sides using an edge sander, as suggested by Bre, to ensure a consistent cube appearance. The final product can be viewed in this Flickr photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hirmes/3909380149/ ### Update: I had initially forgotten to mention that post-lasercutting, I beveled the sides of each piece at a 45-degree angle using an edge sander to achieve uniformity in the cube's shape. This tip was kindly provided by Bre. The completed project can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hirmes/3909380149/
