sketchfab
Stamped fragment from a jar discovered in the excavations at Calatrava la Vieja, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, dating back to the Islamic almohad period between 1195-1212 CE. Found in 2009 within the south-east sector of the medina, next to the western wall of the alcázar. The jar, known as a "yabiya" in Arabic, was the primary container for storing and transporting liquids and solids throughout the Andalusian period in the Iberian Peninsula. During this time, jars became widely used for filtering water, a practice that gained popularity during the almohad period in al-Andalus. Vessels like these were typically adorned with printed stamps featuring geometric and epigraphic patterns. RC CV08 26 787 15 Retuerce Velasco, M. (1998): Andalusian ceramics of La Meseta. Madrid.
