Isis was a major deity in ancient Egyptian mythology whose worship extended far beyond Egypt's borders into the Greco-Roman world. Isis first appeared in the Old Kingdom (c. 2686–2181 BCE) as one of the central figures in the Osiris myth, where she miraculously revives her deceased husband, the divine king Osiris, and brings forth his heir, Horus. She was believed to guide the spirits of the dead into the afterlife just as she had done for Osiris, and she was revered as the divine mother of the pharaohs, who were likened to Horus in importance. Her nurturing powers were invoked in healing spells to benefit ordinary people. I will print this out later, but I'm still waiting for your signal before doing so.
