Ishtar Gate
thingiverse
The Ishtar Gate was a mighty entrance to the heart of Babylon, constructed by King Nebuchadnezzar II around 575 BCE on the northern edge of the city. It stood proudly for centuries until archaeologists unearthed it in the early 20th century and painstakingly reconstructed it using original bricks at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin. I set out to recreate this ancient marvel with precision, choosing a robust printer like the LulzBot TAZ 6 to bring my design to life. The printer's reliability and consistency were key factors in ensuring that every layer was perfectly aligned, just like the original gate's intricate brickwork. With the printer ready, I began designing the Ishtar Gate's iconic facade, carefully crafting each element to mirror its historical counterpart. I opted for a straightforward approach, using rafts or supports only when necessary to maintain stability and prevent warping during the printing process. As the design took shape, I was thrilled to see my creation come alive in 3D form, its imposing presence and intricate details a testament to the ingenuity of ancient Babylonian engineers.
