Is this the real loudest whistle yet?
thingiverse
I was really intrigued by this loudest whistle game that seems to be going on here. So I printed out several and did my own side-by-side comparisons. Firstly, I tried the surprisingly infamous V29. It was actually pretty disappointing, not very loud at all and required a lot of puff! It was also quite bulky. Anyway, after conducting a ton of experimental printing, I came to the conclusion that Whistleblowers compact whistles were the best out of all the ones I tried. I found that the original one (V1?) was slightly better than the V2, but both were really impressive. So I took the V1 and did some experiments with simple scaling up and down on different axes. The sweet spot result (so far! further tweaks may be possible) are the two very simple scaled up remixes I’m submitting here. I’m certain these are significantly louder than the 1:1 scale whistles (which themselves are already extremely loud!). They also have lower frequency resonant beating tones so are more pleasing to my ears anyway. Try them out, and see what you think. Just please keep an eye on your ears! These are literally right up against the threshold of pain. I would love to read your humorous comments in the replies! The two files are self-explanatory...... V1 +25% V1 +35% I’m not going to start quoting decibels etc. To measure that absolutely with any degree of accuracy requires very expensive equipment and anechoic chambers etc etc. Also, the distance and orientation from whistle to mic makes all the difference. Almost anything can go off the scale if it’s close enough! dB meters are useful for making relative comparisons between whistles, providing the test method remains identical across all the samples. Thanks to Whistleblower for the source V1 whistle. A superb yet elegantly simple design. I don’t claim any originality on this thing. All I did was scale the originals (and some others too) and nearly blew myself away testing the things. These are head and shoulders above the others IMO, especially the so-called 140dB etc DISCLAIMER: Use only with ear protection! This is not a kids toy! If this thing causes any hearing damage to anyone, anywhere, I take no responsibility. You have been warned.
