Iron Works Sculpture

Iron Works Relief Wall Panel; NC State University, College of Design; Raleigh, North Carolina. 4 feet by 6 feet, 3 inches deep. Agisoft Photoscan processed 87 photographs. This particular panel exhibits a fracture at its top left edge. As it is mounted vertically on a wall, recasting could be problematic without removing the entire piece and relocating it elsewhere. Fortunately, it has mirrored sections with duplicated features. To correct the original, one can scan the right side of the relief, mirror the three-dimensional model to repair any damages or missing details, and replace the damaged portion with a printed replica or partial casting. Another option is splitting the original model in half, mirroring it as needed to produce an intact and functional replica of the relief panel. Some final outputs exhibited extremely high polygon counts. One generated a massive 10-gigabyte OBJ file, making further processing necessary. The uploaded relief has been downscaled for better compatibility with printing techniques while retaining some of its original characteristics. As a result, additional refinements may be required to maintain the intricate undercuts and engravings in the metalwork during the final rendering and OBJ file reduction for traditional 3D printing or CNC machining procedures.
