Iron pipe bushings
prusaprinters

I designed these bushings to allow a 1" iron gas pipe to fit inside a 1 1/2" iron pipe. It is being used to replace the flimsy tubing that came with my swing desk from Amazon which failed in multiple different ways quickly. By using the iron gas pipe, the desk is extremely stable now.

The lower bushing also provides a 6cm lift from the bottom for the inner pipe.

Print Settings

Printer:

Biqu B1

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2 mm / layer

Infill:

100%

Filament:
Overture PLA
Black

Notes:

Could probably use less infill on the lower bushing, but I made it as a solid piece which has worked really well. With 100% infill this took my machine just shy of 18 hrs to complete.

Post-Printing =============
After printing, you will need to sand the outer layers of the bushings to get a good fit. The iron pipe I used had a ridge that I also had to remove most of to get the bushings to fit well. After a little sanding though everything fits as it should and the inner pipe does not move side to side in the larger pipe.

The plug is meant to be used in the top bushing. I did not "predrill" the bushing in Fusion as I wanted to make sure it lined up with the screw hole I drilled in my pipe. After printing and fitting the bushing, I taped the bushing in place to make sure it wouldn't move. Then I drilled my hole for my 3/8-16 thumbscrew. I removed the bushing and tapped the hole in the iron pipe. The hole in the bushing I redrilled out to 1/2" as that was the largest drill I had. I then filed both the plug and hole until I achieved a good fit. The plug allows me to apply pressure to the inner pipe without metal on metal contact.

Category: 3D Printing
