Iron Giant Bolt

Work in Progress UPDATE: A huge thank you goes out to bairnt for crafting easy-to-remove supports for screw threads, which has been added to the files section. I was inspired by Adam Savage's One Day Build video on the Iron Giant Bolt to create one of my own. Since no suitable 3D models were available online, I decided to design it myself using measurements taken from screen grabs of the movie based on an average 9-year-old's hand size. The IG-Tube-Top is inserted between the screw threads and head to hold them together securely. The IG-Tube-Bottom goes between the screw thread and bottom cone for added stability. A hollow center area in the bolt head allows for easy addition of LEDs and wiring (additional hollowing may be necessary). Modelled parts were created using 123 Design, and exported parts underwent processing through NetFabb. Only supports for the screw threads are required. If you have alternative measurements that you think would improve it or suggestions to enhance the design, please don't hesitate to share them with me. My first print is complete, but I need to remove remaining support material from the threads, assemble the parts together using glue, apply a coat of paint, and bring out the lighting.
With this file you will be able to print Iron Giant Bolt with your 3D printer. Click on the button and save the file on your computer to work, edit or customize your design. You can also find more 3D designs for printers on Iron Giant Bolt.
