Iron Giant

Due to popular demand, I uploaded the files again without built-in supports. My friend's son loves Iron Giant, and they asked me to make him one. I found this model on GrabCad (https://grabcad.com/library/iron-giant-1) and modified it to be printable with articulating arms and head and waist. Parts include: Head Upper torso front upper torso back lower torso hip (x2) left leg right leg fore arms upper arm (x2) shoulder pin (x4) Printing requires careful orientation of the prints, particularly for the upper arm and legs. These should be printed laying down to achieve maximum strength. Assembly necessitates some glue (super glue works great). Clean the parts well before assembly. I included supports in many models where holes are printed vertically; these will need to be punched out with a screw driver or pried out with pliers. Many of the supports will pull right off, but you may want to clean up the edges with a razor. Arm assembly involves combining a shoulder, two shoulder pins, upper arm, and lower arm. Clean the prints before pinning the shoulder to the fat end of the upper arm. You might need to sand the pin down. DO NOT FORCE THE PIN! It will break the shoulder (I speak from experience) after pushing in the pin. Apply a few drops of super glue on the outside ends of the pin to secure it to the shoulder piece. Be cautious not to use too much glue, or you could immobilize the joint. Next, pin the lower arm to the upper arm. The pins are long for the elbow joint; carefully cut off excess material with a razor and then glue the outside ends of the pin to the lower arm piece. Again, be mindful of the amount of glue used. Waist assembly requires the 'waist' and two 'hips'. Before gluing these together, do a test fit. You may need to shave off the tip of the hip so they can both fit flush against the...crotch...of the waist. Once you're sure they fit flush, glue them well, especially at the interface between the hip and the crotch. Torso assembly involves fitting the Head arms and waist into the Upper torso pieces. DO A DRY FIT FIRST! Make sure all joints rotate smoothly; clean off any necessary parts. I also had to clean up the interface between the two upper torso parts for a good, clean seam between them. Once you're comfortable with the fit, glue it up, keeping glue away from joints. Leg assembly requires a dry fit as well. Alignment is crucial if you want it to stand on its own two feet; then glue them up. You are done! Enjoy your Iron Giant.
