Iris, Rodin, Portland Art Museum

As a member of Portland's thriving community of makers, I'm proud to be part of Layer Geeks. We've even established a meetup group on meetup.com called the "Portland 3D Printing Lab," where we eagerly discuss 3D printing and push each other to create innovative projects. One such project that stands out is our attempt to 3D print a life-size cow, affectionately dubbed #crowdcow. This endeavor was particularly memorable for me, as I had the opportunity to collaborate with the Portland Art Museum on an exciting project. They requested that I 3D scan the Cantor Foundation's statues, which were crafted by the renowned artist Auguste Rodin. With my iPad equipped with the Structure scanner from Occipital, I carefully navigated the process of capturing the intricate details of these masterpieces in real-time. As I worked, I was able to witness the object being transformed into a 3D printable format right before my eyes on the iPad screen. Once I had completed the scan, I utilized Autodesk's Meshmixer application to refine and optimize it for printing. The Portland Art Museum's support made this project possible, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to share these scans with fellow makers. I highly recommend visiting "Auguste Rodin: The Human Experience" at the Portland Art Museum while you still can (the exhibit runs through April 2017). Don't hesitate to get creative with the scans – print them out for yourself or as a gift for someone else, and become an integral part of the maker movement. Adam McGee Portland 3D LLC www.PDXDDD.com
