Iris Plotting Compass (No glue or screws, also an incredibly fun desk toy)
thingiverse
Are you an artist who struggles to draw circles between 10 and 70 mm in diameter? Well, I'm not, but you're in exactly the right place. Even if you're not an artist, this plotting compass is a very fun make. Similar designs retail for ungodly prices online. This plotting compass may not match their precision, but it can be yours for only a fraction of a 1kg PLA spool. Features include sixteen thin iris leaves, an ornate dial, a diameter scale measured in centimeters, optional TPU grips underneath, and an outer ring with a customized thread that prevents over-tightening during assembly. I'd love to see remixes of this design, so I've included my Fusion360 files. Maybe an iris box for trinkets? I once used a similar iris design as a lamp dimmer in college. Iris doors are fun to play around with, but hard to get in working order. Fellow designers, I've spared you the hard part here. I know what you're thinking: "This isn't a sword!" That's true. It can't always be swords. There will be more swords, but not today. If you want to suggest my next project, a link to my Patreon is on my profile.
