Iris Box

Iris Box

thingiverse

This box, inspired by http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4244, opens when you twist its outer rings in opposing directions. Watch Labmat's demonstration at http://www.flickr.com/photos/matthewlaberge/5101233486/. The design has been altered to improve clearance between moving parts and optimize printing positions. Design files in DXF, STEP, and original CATpart formats are available for those with access to Catia. Many thanks to everyone who shared photos, videos, and constructive feedback! Don't forget to check out Jon Hodgins' version at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5589. To assemble, print 5 shutters and one of everything else; use filament or M3 screws if needed. Some surfaces may require sanding, while others might need drilling. A video showcasing its functionality earns bonus points!
