This is a mounting solution for the IR sensor by David Crocker, available at https://miscsolutions.wordpress.com/mini-height-sensor-board/. I operate a dual extruder system but currently only utilize one extruder, which allows me to position the sensor approximately in the middle of the effector. This arrangement minimizes mathematical complexities resulting from effector tilt. To facilitate this setup, I removed the hot end mount from the effector, unscrewed the hot end, and drilled/tapped two M3 bolt holes in the center of the hot end mount, spaced 10mm apart. The top section securely fastens into these holes using M3 bolts. A second component, attached to the top section via two M2 bolts measuring 25mm long, forms the bottom section of the assembly. This lower section supports the sensor itself. Due to the proximity of the IR sensor to the hot end and its sensitivity to temperature fluctuations, a "heat shield" was implemented. The heat shield is essentially a piece of plastic identical in size to the IR sensor PCB, onto which I attached aluminum foil on the side facing the hot end. The opposite side of the heat shield interfaces with the back of the IR sensor PCB. The sensor's components are oriented away from the hot end to mitigate potential damage. The sensor connector protrudes through the mount. On my printer setup, the sensor triggers when the nozzle is approximately 1.5mm above the print bed.
