The innovative design provides a biomimicry solution to mitigate the issue of phones slipping out of pocket by incorporating special features on the cover that require more force to remove the phone. Similar to shark skin, where overlapping sharp uni-directional denticles have reduced drag force in one direction, the new case works similarly to increase drag in one direction. The sharp and downward-pointing structure entangles fabrics in the pocket lining, thereby increasing drag force and preventing phones from dropping out. Due to the downward-pointing of the structure, slipping phones into pockets is fast and easy. The premium design features a sliding case cover that can be easily slotted to cover the entire phone. Additionally, during dry weather, the top face of the back cover of the phone case has been designed to allow air to enter the case and circulate around at the back of the phone, preventing overheating. For wet weather, the top of the front case is uniquely shaped to ensure water does not enter the phone cases. Unlike most waterproofing solutions that are clumsy and prevent usage of phones, this solution relies on understanding water flow dynamics and directing them around the phones instead of into the phones. The case also features a transparent plastic front face to enable touchscreen functionality even when the phone is covered. A slide-in mechanism is provided to attach the phone case onto the mounting part for convenience and ease of use. After conducting market research, we discovered a lack of products that incorporate all these features, making this phone case novel in the market. The primary focus of this project will be on designing iPhone 6 phone covers specifically for motorcyclists. Lesson Plan and Activity: A basic case design with uni-directional surface roughness entangles inner lining of pockets, preventing phones from slipping out. Additionally, wet weather and overheating of phones are significant problems faced by motorcyclists. To prevent overheating, the luxury phone case is designed to allow better airflow in contact with the back of the phone. A unique case with a slide-in transparent cover is oriented to ensure water flows away from the phones, keeping them dry and functional during wet weather.
