iPhone X Dock
thingiverse
Human: Designed specifically for iPhone X with the Apple leather cover. **Why another phone dock?** The new iPhone X is a few mm taller than its predecessors, so my old printed iPhone dock no longer fit. After extensive browsing, I couldn't find any other dock that met my expectations. The ones I liked that didn't fit aren't available for the X, and I dislike modifying STLs or OBJs. Generic docks are often clumsy or have other issues. I decided to design one from scratch quickly. Here's the result I'm excited to share. I believe there are not enough phone docks out there yet! **Assembly** You'll need a standard Apple Lightning cable that works with no issues. Others may be unclear, but Amazon Essentials' Lightning cables might work as well. The plug's plastic part needs an oval shape, diameter, and length. 1. Put the lightning plug through the larger hole from bottom to top, then pull it sideways and push the plug into the smaller hole, ideally using flat pliers. If you're a perfectionist, protect the metal plug with tape to avoid scratching it with the pliers. 2. Place the cable into the cable guide at the bottom. This fit is also very tight; you might need your fingernails to press it in. 3. Finally, push the "plug" into the larger hole for a nicer appearance. Print this design bottom-down so that the surface matches the rest, not the shiny top. You may need to clean the "elephant foot" from printing to ensure a smooth fit. **Print parameters** The fit relies on print parameters and material. Try reducing extrusion or flow if you can't get it in. I recommend printing with a 0.4 nozzle and 0.1mm layer height, as other settings might alter the holes' measurements too much. **And don't forget to post a photo of your creation!** ----------------------------------- **UPDATE 17 Dec 2017:** I added a version called "iPhone_X_Dock_Lightning3mm.stl" with the Lightning plug standing out 3mm at the top instead of 1mm (depth of the plug cutout 9.2mm instead of 11.3mm). This is intended for phone cases that add more at the bottom, like the Tech21 case. ----------------------------------- **UPDATE 15 February 2018:** I added a version called "iPhone_X_Dock_NoCase.stl" for iPhone X without any case. The back wall of the rest is moved 1.5mm to the front / to the connector and the connector vertical depth is 12.2mm, which should place the plastic part even with the top of the hole. I haven't tested this version by printing it; please let me know if it needs correction. ----------------------------------- **UPDATE 9 March 2018:** I added a version called "iPhone_X_Dock_LightCase.stl" for iPhone X with a very thin case about 0.35mm thick. The connector stands out 0.4mm, and the back rest is moved 0.2mm further back (as there has already been some tolerance I didn't want to overdo it).
