I spend a lot of time in dusty areas, which makes my Otterbox cover more effective at keeping dust out. My old iPhone 6 stopped working after just two years because moisture seeped through its speaker. This feature should help prevent that issue from happening again. The sound quality is also barely affected - I could plug and unplug the speakers during music without noticing a difference.
