I was driving my vintage 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ, trying to navigate with my iPhone 6 in tow. To hold onto my device securely, I needed a specialized phone holder that would attach firmly to the dashboard. This innovative holder clamps tightly around the defroster opening and is easy to install or remove without any screws. Simply print two separate parts and superglue them together just like the images show. The installation process takes mere seconds, making it effortless to have my iPhone within arm's reach while driving. When printing the phone holder, make sure it stands upright on one side; otherwise, you may encounter difficulties during assembly. The clip part should be printed flat against the base plate - don't confuse it with the incorrect STL file illustration! After uploading the Google Sketchup design for the phone component, users can now modify it to fit a variety of smartphone models. This update ensures compatibility across various devices and streamlines the user experience. A crucial consideration when driving a Jeep, especially those vintages like my YJ model, is that they tend to experience mild vibrations due to their loose suspension system. As the phone isn't securely fitted into its holder, it moves slightly, causing buzzing sensations inside the device case. To solve this problem temporarily, you can try inserting a small piece of adhesive-backed felt material between the phone and the clip to prevent any rattling sounds from disturbing you during your journey. As of today (the following day), I tested my solution by sticking a felt pad into place - voila! The unwanted noise has been completely eliminated. Mission accomplished! Later that summer, in mid-April, 2016, some users noticed warping issues occurring on the clip part as it sat exposed to intense heat and sunlight over an extended period of time. While this slightly loosened the dashboard's grip on my iPhone holder, it still manages to stay securely fastened - fingers crossed. Just days after updating the post in June, a user took off his Jeep doors and roof panels to allow more air to circulate while enjoying warmer weather - no surprises there, considering his passion for all things Jeep.
