iPhone 6 Macro Lens Clip
thingiverse
Human: I was fiddling with some lenses and my iPhone 6 when I stumbled upon their potential for Macro photography. Some of them turned out to be ideal, but I needed a way to hold the lens securely in place. That's when John Umekubo's clever friction fit design on 123d's models site caught my eye. I adapted it to suit my iPhone6 Plus and now it fits snugly over the existing case. But what's more impressive is that it remains flexible enough to work even without a case. Just take a look at the photos - you can see how close we get to an object. However, macro photography also means a shallow depth of field. The lens I used exhibits vignette on the iPhone preview, but zooming in a bit makes up for it. As part of this DIY project, I've repurposed a discarded CCTV camera's lens to make a makeshift macro attachment. It's definitely worth giving some local security companies a call - they're probably discarding old analog cameras and lenses by the bunch due to the digital transition. Feel free to experiment with whatever lens you come up with, just remember to adjust the adapter accordingly. I've included the 123dDesign file so you can tinker with it yourself. To give this project some substance, here are the print settings: * Printer Brand: Printrbot * Printer Model: Printrbot Plus * Rafts: No rafts required * Supports: None needed * Resolution: 0.2mm precision is perfect for detailed designs * Infill Percentage: I opted for 25% but feel free to adjust according to your needs * Filament Type: I used PLA, which turned out great, but you can experiment with different types for the best results. A little background on how this design came together - it's a remix of John Umekubo's original work.
