iPhone 5s macro lens mount
thingiverse
This macro lens mount was inspired by lens42's design on Shapeways. The mount's designer found a budget $4 lens from surplusshed.com suitable for iPhone macro photography. To create a mount that fits over a case and can be self-printed, this version adopts the lens hold from a loupe mount. An updated 12mm version is also available for Surplus Shed lens L4581 with higher magnification. The inner diameter of the lens hole measures 12.3mm, providing a snug fit without glue on the printer. To adjust dimensions, download the rsdoc file and use DesignSpark Mechanical (free) to modify the lens hole size. The outer ring features a retaining lip, so insert the lens from the inside of the mount. Easiest method is to drop it in from the side using a pencil eraser for support before pushing it flat. The L4471 lens is plano-convex; ensure the flat side faces the phone. An STL file is available, showcasing the assembled mount's appearance. However, printing the entire object results in rough bridged surfaces that may scratch a leather case. Instead, print the two separate parts for smoother case-side surfaces and glue or solvent bond them together using tabs and holes for alignment. Recommended print settings are .20mm layer height and .40mm extrusion width.
