iPhone 5 Case with Support Legs
thingiverse
iPhone 5 case with legs to allow it to sit slightly pictched back in the vertical mode. Allows hands free reading. Also works in the horizontal mode, but it isn't as firm. Instructions I had a iPhone5 case I liked because it had legs that would pop out and let it stand vertically with a slight pitch or horizontally. Great for eating lunch of just having it on the desk. The commercial one I had broke so I made a new one. Started with the latest version of this. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:30973 It was about .3 too short to lock in well. The walls were a bit thin, I thought. I just expanded it some and them copied it and just slightly resized it and then combined them to make thicker walls. The back was thin so I sliced it out and then expanded it so that back was 4mm thick, but still had a bit of a curve to the bottom. Two leg designs later and 3 prototypes to get sizing and gaping right on the one I selected. Not the greatest, but it works in the vertical well, a bit slippery in the horizontal. Amazing how hinges, angles and triangles work. Little nubbins that might have to be trimmed. Probably could get a tighter fit on the panels for the legs. Printed all in ABS, white Makerbot from the local MicroCenter store (awesome to have filament local)! Print the carcass with at .2mm, cut in Cura, no brim at 235C and 85 bed on my PB+v2. The legs I print with a 20mm brim, same settings. Takes an exacto knife to get them clean, I think I'll go with a file and sandpaper since I knicked myself. Downloaded that thingiverse file and worked on it in Tinker cad: Here are the files: https://tinkercad.com/things/dTzUyWeXRBx https://tinkercad.com/things/hvlZkPqkRiA https://tinkercad.com/things/dYoDnX7OtJl One file of all three parts and two files of the case plus legs, set to print. One leg has some supports added already. Not perfect. I might move the hinge point and figure out a better horizontal set-up. Interestingly, it seems in the source case the round window in the back isn't in the middle? I moved it.
