iPhone 5 adapter for handheld illuminated microscope
thingiverse
This print allows you to align your iPhone 5's lens with the eyepiece of an inexpensive handheld microscope (Radio Shack, Model MM-100, Catalog #63-1313). The design comprises two pieces: a top iPhone adapter that snaps onto a microscope adapter base. This 2-piece structure is intended for creating adapters compatible with various microscopes and phones. Slots on the left and right help in managing the zoom dial, while the base's length ensures it remains attached to the microscope at full zoom. The adapter has been used for PCB inspection and entertaining/educating children. However, be cautious when handling the iPhone 5 to prevent any damage. The top iPhone 5 adapter may come off when adjusting the microscope zoom; slide the assembled adapter up, manipulate the zoom, then slide it back down until the eyepiece contacts the top iPhone 5 adapter. More updates are coming soon! To create the fitting adapter, use PLA with a Makerbot Replicator 2 under these settings: Medium quality, 10% Infill, 2 shells, 0.27 layer height, no Raft, and no Supports. For usage, remove the rubber end from the eyepiece, insert iPhone into the top adapter, connect it to the microscope base, slide it onto the microscope until contact is made, turn on the light bulb, activate the iPhone camera, focus using the iPhone's tap feature, and adjust zoom as needed.
