I wanted to capture the essence of time-lapse recording of 3D printing. A clock in the background seemed like a great idea, giving viewers a sense of elapsed time. Going out and buying an affordable clock wasn't exactly thrilling. I had an old iPhone 4 with a cracked screen lying around, so I decided to breathe new life into it.
