iOptron Shaft for Cube Pro
thingiverse
Thanks to OpenSCAD threads module" by dan_kirshner for his threads program which made this design possible. This model fits an iOptron Cube Pro, possibly others. It's only a mockup to check fit and thread specifications before machining. The printed version in any material won't be strong enough to hold a telescope - it will break when the clutch is tightened, putting tremendous tension on the shaft which needs stainless steel. The shaft takes the iOptron Secondary Saddle #8953. The #8253 saddle has the same thread as the end cap but lacks canting adjustment screws needed for centering targets in both telescopes. Four of these were turned in 303 stainless steel for easier machining, and they seem to work well. Put both files in the same directory (threads.scad and iOptron Shaft.scad). It takes a long time to render - go get a cup of coffee and breakfast while you wait. It prints at about six hours @.1 mm / layer with good thread finish for working parts. Flip it on the table and use only table support; a brim (not raft) is a good idea. I used PLA-CF carbon fiber material, which provides a great finish.
