iOptron CEM40 Azimuth Lock Screw Lever

iOptron CEM40 Azimuth Lock Screw Lever

The azimuth lock screws on my iOptron CEM40 is idiotic; it requires an Allen wrench to tighten & loosen, so you need to make sure you never lose the one that comes with the mount, but even if you have it it's a hassle to use, especially in the dark as you try to polar align. Lock&release levers that come with other mounts, like my ZWO AM5, are so much nicer. So I designed a lever than can pop right onto the screws that come with the CEM40. They need to be detachable because the screws need to come completely off when detaching the mount from the tripod (another dumb design choice, if you ask me), but the fit needs to be snug enough so that it doesn't easily come off in the field. If you happen to lose one, the good thing is you always have another one on the other side. Still, I would always keep the Allen wrench in the mount case in case you lose BOTH of these levers :) You need a couple of things for assembly: Hammer Preferably a nail setter punch 2 x 25mm Long 1/4" Hex Shank H4 (just do a search for that on Amazon; there are several options you can choose from, for $8-9 for a set of four) Once you print the part, put the flat side on a hard surface, and hammer in the hex shank from the concave end of the part. Hammer in until flush with the hard surface (see photos). The H4 hex tip should be protruding by about 3mm. With the screw in the fully tightened position, put the part over the screw head and slowly rotate clockwise while pressing down until the hex tip clicks into the hex hole of the screw head. The bottom of the printed part should now be flush with the mount. You can now lock & unlock the screw with a twist of only about 30˚.
