Update 4/28/17 Finally managed to authentically test this setup. I removed the parachute from one of these designs: http://a.co/5VXAKWL, and it worked even better than expected. It fell softly and didn't break the lens protection posts, despite them being designed as sacrificial components. Of course, we then dropped the camera twice without a parachute just for fun. The result was a lawn dart-style landing. Unfortunately, the sacrificial posts didn't survive those drops. The only criticism I have is that the camera takes a lot of speed to stabilize after dropping. I'm unable to rifle the fins without compromising the video quality. Perhaps if the fins were larger, it would stabilize faster. Instead of risking a GoPro, I searched "action camera" on Amazon and decided it was worth risking $40 that I might break this: http://a.co/0kervw1 I'm going to attach a parachute and drop this at least three times - twice with the parachute and once without one. The posts extending past the lens are not visible by the camera, and they're guaranteed to break instantly due to delamination (layer orientation). I don't care; it'll be a fun experiment! I printed this design using two perimeters and 10% infill. Simply slip the camera in and use an M6 screw to hold the case to the camera. Tie the parachute on, and you're ready. I've included STL files for the case and one for the camera model. Note that the M6 screw is centered 39mm up from the bottom of the camera.
